EOI Process and Information

So when you have both ACS (or assessment from other assessing authority) and IELTS with you - you can Lodge EOI through this page - by clicking on 'Submit EOI' button on the right, like given in the image on right.

First the good news - EOI is free of any fees :-) and you do NOT need to upload any documents to submit EOI. But make sure you fill in right details, as points will be calculated based on that and you would have to provide documents while lodging visa (if invited) - failing which your application will be rejected and fees may not be refunded!
While submitting EOI - you need to mention your Skill Assessment reference number and IELTS TRF number. You also need to fill in details of spouse's IELTS TRF and Skill Assessment reference number if you are claiming spouse points.

Now fill up EOI - it's the your usual information that they ask and you fill in. While filling out EOI - you can opt for one or both of 189 and 190 in EOI - but you can not receive invite for both 189 and 190.
If you receive one invite then your EOI will be in suspended state - in this state you can not receive another invitation.

EOI for Australia189 invites comes through rounds that happen generally on 1st and 3rd Monday (0000 hours) of each month, these invites are based on points that you have claimed - applicant with highest points are invited first. And if points are same then in order of effective EOI submission date. According to the trend anyone with >=65 points receives invites definitely. And if you have 60 points - you may or may not receive invite depending on number of invites and number of applicants - but this is just what's the trend at time of writing this information (2013 start).

If you are opting 190 in your EOI - then generally you need to first submit your EOI then apply for respective State Sponsorship (SS) - as you may need to fill EOI number while filling the sponsorship form - so that they are linked. You would receive automatic 190 invite when SS is approved (this is how 190 invites are different than 189 invites). You should first check which state you want to opt - as they have different criteria/fees/policy/job-market. Each state has list of occupation codes that they are open to invite at a particular time - its important that you check their current list on their site. Also - some state would not invite you if you have opted multiple states to sponsor you. That is why its essential that you first research that which state will suit you and go for it. Two reason why you might have to go for 190:
  • You don't have enough points for a general skilled visa; SS provides 5 extra points OR
  • Your skill may only be on the CSOL. Check requirements on Australia PR Eligibility Criteria

Various states that you can opt for:

Also, once invited through 190 - benefit is that CO allocation and visa grant is quicker than 189 as 190 has more priority. But downside is that you have a moral binding to live and work in state that sponsored you for first 2 years of your stay in Australia.

Both invite process works separately but when invite from either 189 or 190 is received then you would not receive another invite until your first invite expires (after 2 months) and you have still not applied for Visa.

Ceiling: Also check the ceiling and current invite count for your occupation code that has set for a certain year on this skill-select link. Generally report  is populated with a bit old data - but you can get the idea and they also publish which all occupation code's ceiling is reached. If ceiling has reached then invite will cease for this particular year (DIAC year is as per Australian Financial year: July to June). This affects bot 189 and 190 invites!

Note - You are supposed to submit single EOI - but there is no where mentioned that do not submit multiple EOIs. Few people I know have called up DIAC who were stuck with one EOI due to some complexity, they confirmed that you can lodge multiple EOIs; but before doing that - confirm with DIAC as it may be allowed only in some scenarios - or otherwise you might risk rejection on both EOIs !

Editing your EOIYou can edit your submitted EOI before getting an invite - and edit details - but if you alter details that change your points then your effective date of submission of EOI would change to date when you made these changes, if no such change is made which changed the points then effective date would be equal to EOI submission date only. This change in date might effect you as EOI invites is first come first serve if points matches. So if number of applicants whose points match > invites-left-to-be-sent-out; then invites are sent out on basis of effective date of submission of EOI.

I can not stress on this more that you HAVE to fill in correct details because if not done so - this will get your visa rejected later when you lodge and fail to produce evidence of claimed points with possibility of no return of Visa charges.

    1. Hi Dinesh,
First of all - CO is Case Officer.
CO would appear in 2 cases, first at the time of ACS (skill assessment) and then at time of Visa application. I would tell you in terms of Visa, other will be intuitive then.
When you have lodged your Visa - after some time a CO is allocated to your application, who will then analyze and process your case and s/he can ask for more information and grant/deny PR based on the information/proof provided by you. Hope its clear!
You will get more information on further pages. You already started with proces?
      Best of luck!

    1. Hi Puneet,
Glad its doing the intended job of helping out!

As you did not mention at which stage you are, am assuming you are just starting out.
As there may be some changes to process on 1st July -I would suggest to clear your IELTS and prepare all your documents till 1st july as per current criteria (you might want to hold the stat declaration on roles and responsibilities to see if you need to change it depending on changes in July). And if nothing changes then go with ACS too; if something changes, well - then you need to figure out what to change!

But if you think you can have all things sorted out (depending on what stage you are) including submitting EOI before 1 Jul then you would fall in current process; so you should be good! And I believe even if 2613 ceiling is reached; it will be anyhow reset in July and 2613 should be in high demand even then.
This is sort of playing safe as nobody knows if and what change will there be in July. Let's hope its in migrants favour!
Hope you got the ans you were looking for!
      Best of luck!

Thanks a lot for a prompt reply and providing useful information just when we needed it.

We have received the skill assessment result on 28th July. And it is positive. Also, the IELTS score is 7.5 with >7 in all sections.

Can you please suggest how we should proceed and what all documents will be required at the time of submitting EOI.

      When we should submit EOI?

Looking forward to receive a reply from you.
      Thanks in advance.

I have the following queries before EOI submission:

    1. For 10 and 10+2 qualification which education field should I opt from the drop down lists

    2. Before submitting the EOI I want to know about the the lists documents (applying as a software tester) that is required.

    3. The difference between opting "ANY" or selecting a particular state.

    1. Hi Ujjal,
      1. No need to enter 10,+2 info; start from graduation.
      2. In EOI - you don't need to add any documents. You would need to upload documents while lodging Visa when invited - generic list is given on eVisa page.
      3. Any would mean that you are either not sure of State yet or applying to multiple state. I'd suggest select a particular state and connect the same through EOI numer as suggested in article too.
      Best of luck!

    1. Whats is the expected time to get the Invite after we fill up EOI.

    2. At what stage, Spouse IELTs score is required?
AT the time of EOI or while applying visa?

    1. Hi (please leave a name to refer to :)),
      1. For 189: Invites are sent out on scheduled automatic invite rounds - DIAC also declares the number of invite they will be sending out. These days - they are generally scheduled to happen on 1st and 3rd Monday. So, if
-you qualify with atleast 60 points and
-the nominated occupation has not reached the ceiling yet and
-You fall in top number of people as per your points and submission date.
Then you would get invite in that round.
For 190: When you are approved State sponsorship, you would immediately get invite!

      2. If you are claiming points for spouse: then it you should have score before you get EOI invite. But you don't need to submit proof yet.
If you are not claiming points: then you need score while you application is in progress or optionally you can get letter from spouse college that medium of instruction was English - check eVisa page for more information on this.

Hope that clears up your doubts.
      Best of luck!

      a) Not for 189, you don't need to, ever!
      b) For 190 - you need to mention that amount. But not required to prove; but you SHOULD NOT LIE!
      c) I think you need to list your entire asset amount so guess you can include property amount etc.

    2. Thanks for your reply. I am applying for 190 visa. You did not mention at what stage it is required. Will there be any input field wherein I have to give the details with the supporting documents? Acutally still not sure how to go about with the process of detailing the asset amount information. From your reply I have understood that it is not necessary to show cash in my account. But if you can just help me with some more detailed information it will be great.

    3. From the information I have - you will be required to put down value for all the assets you have (again, this was for VIC - for another state they might just ask liquid amount) - but this will be asked while filling up application for State Sponsorship.
You can confirm that with opening up fill up forms for the required state, you will have information before pressing submit or some states also take only offline application too!
      Hope this helps a bit!

I am applying for 190 and got 85 points in my EOI including 10 for work experience. Is it possible to not claim points for the work experience part in EOI? I don't want to go about collecting the documents for proving my work experience as i Know i could get an invite even with 75 points.
Also i don't have work experience assessment from Engineers Australia, just the qualification assessment.Do you think DIAC will be very particular with my work experience documents, as they would know I have enough points(75) even without the work experience points

    1. Hi,
If your occupation code does not require you to have any minimum experience then I guess you can do that! While in EOI, I believe you have option to state your experience but mention that its NOT assessed. If EOI accepts that and lets you submit it still with 75 points - then you should be good!
But - as you are applying for 190 and hence state sponsorship - don't you think that your case would be strong if you have some experience to show them?

    1. Hi Ujjal,
'Better' is kind of subjective here, I can tell you what factors to look for:
      1. Job Market - I believe VIC has more to offer. But you can look at Seek.com.au to see for your particular profile.
      2. SS time/chance - VIC, I know, takes almost 3 months to decide sponsorship application; and in recent past known reject some applications - including mine :). ACT - am not aware of, but you can browse their site for information on expected duration of decision.
      3. SS Cost - VIC does not involve any cost for applying; ACT, again - you would have to check!
      4. State you prefer to live in terms of weather/cost of living/standard of living/etc.

I believe you have looked at the currently open to invite list of ANZSCO Codes at both state's site - they keep on changing.

As you can see these are some factors; which will weigh in differently for different applicants.

Hope that helps atleast a bit :)

    1. Hey Mandy,
If your experience would complete 8 years 'after' the invite round - then you can NOT do that.
In anyway you can NOT do that - as in EOI you do not put number of years, or points - you put there start and end date (in case its your current job - you leave it blank) and years of experience and hence points are calculated automatically.
So you would have to wait. Don't worry - you will be there!
      Hope that helps.

      Mandy

      Delete
    4. Hi Mandy,
Seems you did not understand. In EOI, for your current company you are supposed to leave end date as empty.
Now whenever invite happens points are calculated based on your current experience at that particular day. So lets say you are in your current company from 4th May 2005. In EOI:
      Start Date = 4th May 2005
End Date = [Leave BLANK] (As its mentioned in EOI to do so for current company)
Now if round happens on 4th May 2013 - its on system to use the points as its meant to calculate - either points on previous day would be used (in this case you would not get enough points) OR system might calculate points as of 4th only.
Either way, you can not do anything different for your benefit. You can just fill in your EOI now. Wait for the invite!
When you fill in your EOI, you will understand me better!
      Hope its clear now!

Just to check, if you still remember the EOI application form, on question "Intended state of residence", is this where they based your CO?

Or do you have an idea how DIAC assign the case to CO, because there are diff. teams right?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Janice,
'Intended state of residence' have nothing to do with CO assignment.
Fact is this is discussed a lot, but there has been no proper inference as to how and which CO is allocated to a case.
They have separate teams of COs - first your case is given to a team, and then to a CO - most probably depending on queue count or something.
Some think COs are based on the country in which you currently are; but fact is still unknown!

This is regarding the EOI process. I am applying for 190 visa. Just wanted to know the two rounds that are conducted every month for 189 visa does it really affect 190 applicants? How? First we need to submit the EOI then submit the SS by giving the EOI reference number - here do we receive any ackownledgement after submitting the EOI? For your knowledge applying for VIC SS. For 189 the invitation is received on the two dates of the month but for 190 invitation mail is received when the SS is approved - for VIC SS after 12 weeks (correct me if i am wrong).

    Waiting for your response.

One more thing that I wanted to know that in case I do in certification and update the same on EOI that will definitely affect my EOI processing time. So can I mail them (VIC SS) my certification in pdf form by giving them the EOI reference number?

    1. Hi Ujjal,
      - 189 round does not have anything to do with 190 invites. Yes, when SS is approved, linked EOI account will be invited. And yes, tentative timeline for Vic SS is 12 weeks.
      - When you submit your EOI - you can see in EOI page's status as 'Submitted' you will also see summary of points earned and how!
      - What sort of certification? Certification don't change points I guess; if it supports your case, you can upload it while you are applying for SS - if already applied then you can mail them with your case-id or reference number in subject line!
      Hope that helped!

  20. Hi,

I really appreciate the information provided by you in this blog..which is definitely making my life easier for applying for Australian PR... I have following doubts and request you to please help me out...

    1) I have done my Bachelors degree in Physics and my current work exp(5.9yrs) is in IT field so would I be required to wait to complete 6 yrs before I apply for Skill Assessment with ACS.
    2) Additionally what are the documents required in my case(RPL is one of them I know)...
    3) Also, would they consider the work ex. including the days or its according to months worked..e.g. (Jul-2007-Jul-2013 window)= 6 yrs or (23rd Jul 2007 to 23rd Jul 2013 window)=6yrs
which one of above example will be applicable if I have to complete 6 yrs work exp.
    4) Lastly, I am quite aware of the entire process of applying 189/190 PR , however do you think applying for Australian immigration one would require specific subject matter experts(offshore agents) to expedite the process...

    Thanks,

    1. Hi SR,
      Your welcome :)
      1) Yes, right
      2) As you might have read that I have not gone through RPL myself - but that can be found in the ACS guide book, which you can refer at ACS site. Also - another good thing is that, when you start applying on ACS site, it opens up a wizard - which step by step shows you what documents are required, so I'd suggest to go through that to be aware of docs required.
      3) I believe its on month basis - but better wait till the exact date; you want to be sure on tiny things too :)
      4) Nope - if you are aware of the process and your process does not have much complexity involved, then you can do it yourself.
      Best of Luck!

    2. Hi,

Thanks a lot for the info..a few more doubts i wanted to clarify,
      1) Do I certify the copy of Employement Reference letter I got from my previous organizations or do I upload the orginal colored copy.
      2) Is the combination of reference letter and Statutary Declaration allowed, like for past 2 Orgs I can take the reference letter from them and for current Org I can make arrangements for Statutary Declaration.
      3) From where can I get the format of Statutary Declaration(S.D) as I am planning now to do the application on my own..(after the encouragement from your comments :) , I have seen your comments above on S.D., is it possible to share Screen shots of raw formats of your S.D..I am sorry if this is more to ask.)
      4) My reference letter mentions me appointed as Software Engernieer, however my roles and responsibilities match Developer Programmer, would that make any difference as far as CO is concerned?
      5) Is there a way to know the occupation ceiling(O.C) for sub-category codes like in addition of knowing for Software and Applications Programmers(2613), is there a way to know the O.C for 261312(Developer Programmer).
      Thanks,

    3. Hey SR,
      1) For ACS - color scans of certified copies are required. Only DIAC (while applying for VISA) color scan of original docs would be accepted but not in ACS.
      2) Yeah - combination is allowed - no prob!
      3) The comments I have mentioned describes it. There would no more info that could be taken from info ommitted screenshots. :)
      4) Designation name can be different than selected occupation code. All it depends on is roles and responsibilities. So you're good!
      5) There's no ceiling for sub category of 2613.
      Hope that helps!
      Best of Luck!

    5. Hi,

Addition to my query above, if you could help me clarify my doubt over Reference letter, I have worked in 3 companies in total and have performed similar responsibilities in all 3 Orgs, so I asked my 1st Org for reference letter for which the roles and responsibilities details were drafted by me & I have got it, I wonder If I can pass the same drafted version of roles and responsibilities details to my second org for them to print the reference letter...however this would mean redundant wording in the letter and might not hold good chances...do you suggest me to change the draft version to something similar but different than first one or may be add a few more points to the already existing reference letter format I have prepared.

Thanks in Advance for your help, looking forward for your reply on this.

      Regards,

    6. Hey SR,
Regarding Salary - this is something I too have to explore as of yet! But from what I know, salary are offered at same level as native people; but obviously like everywhere you would have to bargain on that a bit! Being new at any place, employer would try to get you on low salary, so its better to know your own level in the market so that you can ask for what is right and bargain it out :)

For process - it is expected to have the documents created genuinely - create the points as you had the roles and responsibilities. Obviously wording would change a bit as it will be from different employer and roles should naturally grow as per your experience!

      Hope that helps!

Now my question is will I be able to score points for my work experience i.e. 6 years under the Points system which will fetch me 10 points or the work experience will be adjusted against education and I won't be able to claim points.

      Thanks,
      SR

Can I see this information on immi.gov.au?Please share the link

    1. Hi there,
You can see on skillselect website that EOI is valid for 2 years. So if you put in EOI in June- although cap is reached, it will be put in queue for when new caps would be announced.
DIAC can change rules in July; now there's no such rule or fact given by DIAC that how things will change and how old process will merge on that. But EOI is there process, which is valid for 2 years, so when you have started a process you continue to proceed in the same logically!
This is what happened last year, applicants who started with old visa process still continued in it - although there was no benefit in that, as old process was way to slow!
Also - When you will be ready for putting in EOI in June - chances are that we will be aware of any changes that would be happening in July, if any!
      Best of Luck!

  23. Hi ,

If I change some details in my EOI that leads to decrease in some points , would this decrease to change my effective date ?

Also , if say I was at 60 points and I remove some exp and it becomes 55 , to make up I will opt for an SS and get the 5 points needed . I presume this would change my effective date since I am getting points from 55-60 .

Please advise on both , thanks a lot man :)

  24. Hi admin,
I read your blog and am impressed by the effort that you have put in making it as informative as possible.
I have a few queries. I hope you will be help me on that.
ACS +ve, IELTS- RWSL: 8.5,8,8,7.5, EOI Submitted: Mid April, Applied 189 for 261112. Score:60.
The ceiling has been reached for this SOL at the time i applied.
Though i could have applied for programmer analyst at the time of ACS submission, i did not apply as i was not aware about the slots available (i thought that the agent, through which i applied, would take the best options available; he is a registered one)
Later on i went to Skillselect and got an idea on how things work. Eventually i found the expat forum, and after reading many posts, i found this blog. My knowledge has increased considerably now on the PR system.

Now for this year 2611 has been flagged, though 2613 is also flagged. What do you think? how will it go? last year too 2611 was flagged but the slots were increased from 900 to 1800. Will it increase or decrease?

I am also planning to write IELTS again. get 8 each in module so that score reaches 70. Should i go ahead? Because a person with score of 70 will be invited earlier than a person with a score of 60 or otherwise should i wait for July and see how the trend is going to be.
    Thank you,

    1. Hey Terminator,
You currently have submitted EOI for a occuapation code, which reached ceiling, right?
Its anybody's guess that what would happen in July - but I hope that it should be good ceiling.
If you have that much believe in yourself that you can acheive 8 in very next attempt, you can go for that to improve your points for when ceiling will be refreshed, it would not hurt in anyway other than your IELTS fee :)
      Finally its your call!
Also, point to note is last year - DIAC started sending out invites in small numbers in starting months, which was most probably because to see if there new system was working right. Hence, at start people with 60 points did not receive invites. But this time, I guess the count in each month would be more regular rather than incremental in nature!
But again, its just all guess work, from the facts that we have seen!
      All the best :)

    1. Reddy,
You can proceed with the application. As what you fill in EOI is the basis on which you get the invite - and this is what you need to prove after applying Visa on getting invite! What you do after getting invite in professional life does not matter - but it is something that you must inform your CO, as he must be aware of any significant changes in your life!

While applying for ACS skills assessment, I had not received my Masters in Business Adminstration from my institute, hence I could not attached those documents for ACS assessment, however I did mention in my resume that I am pursuing my MBA. And I could collect my MBA certificate only after I received the ACS skills assessment letter.
So can I still mention my Master's Degree in EOI?

    1. Reddy,
Whatever documents you present to ACS would be the ones that would be assessed. And obviously you need to complete your qualification first if you want it to get assessed. If its not completed - you can mention the same in resume though, but it would not matter, it would not be something that would be assessed in that case!

From the information I had, I believed you needed to visit vfs or embassy for the same. Although, I see the option of applying online also in the link you gave - and gives the complete process on the right side of the same link. Seems the right one to me. Although this application would start online the form etc would still be needed to be submitted offline. Also, remember while the process continues - your passport will be with them!

If you have already completed your studies and completion date is prior or equals the EOI submission date - then I believe you should be good!

But, you have filled EOI just after completion of study ? - Did not you require assessment?

  33. What a great information. You are doing a very fine job and keep it up. I got abit of query too :). I have a Masters degree and a Postgraduate Diploma(PGD) from New Zealand. Vetassess has assessed my masters degree as relevent and of the required level (requirement for my occupation is bachelor or higher). I got a Positive assessment however, Vetassess did not assess my PGD and only assessed the Masters degree. When I tried to complete EOI process, I am completely stumped in the education section. My problem is 'what should I enter and under what category'? Here is a bit from help button in eductaion section: "Please note: Masters Qualifications whether obtained in Australia or overseas, will generally only be eligible for the award of 10 points, unless the client also has an Australian Bachelor degree, or the relevant Assessing Authority has recognised the qualification to be of a similar standing to at least an Australian Bachelor degree. In this circumstance you must select the option of “Other qualification or award recognised by Assessing Authority” in your EOI"

If I enter my Masters degree under Masters degree in education drop down, I get 15 points. If I enter my degree under “Other qualification or award recognised by Assessing Authority” then I only get 10 points. I did not have an underpinning bachelor degree, but Vetassess has assessed my qualification to be be of a required level and the requirement for my occuption was a Bachelor or a higher degree so does that mean I should get 15 points? Furthermore, My Postgraduate diploma has not been assessed and when I eneterered my assessed Masters degree under 'Other qualification or award...." and got only 10 points, but when I entered my diploma as a Graduate diploma( That was the only relevent category I could think of) my points jump to 15? Will the case officer consider my points for diploma too even though it has not been assessed and is NOT my highest qualification. System seems to give me 15 points if I enter my diploma? I have started to feel like that I should probably apply for a Vetassess Points advice however that is yet another costly affair costing in excess of $250/qualification. Needless to mention that there will be further time delays. Any advice will be hugely appreciated as I had been planning to lodge a EOI for sometime but now have got stuck. Cheers, Bobby

    1. There's this thing if you have masters but not grad assessed - you don't get 15 points. In your situation, I would suggest either play safe and go for lesser points or call up DIAC to clarify how you should proceed.
I have seen people over-claiming masters points when they did not have bachelors assessed. Take care of that.
      Good luck!

  34. Wow! you blog really is very informative! Keep up the outstanding work! I also have a query, I received my National Diploma(3 year) in Information Technology in 2002 and have been working as a software developer for just over 9 years now. While working I furthered my studies part time a received my Bachelor of technology Degree in 2012 (after 2 years of part time study).

When making a submission to ACS for an assessment do I submit both my qualifications or just my Diploma? The reason I ask is because I read somewhere that only work experience AFTER your qualification is taken into consideration.

If I submit only my Diploma I can claim almost 9 years working experience with it, if I submit my degree I can only claim about a year and a half worth of work experience. I'm really not sure as to what I should submit to ACS as I am not sure how they would look at it. What are your thoughts regarding my situation?

    Thanks

    1. Hey Rowen,
You heard right - DIAC considers experience only after the latest education.
So the education you claim points for - experience will be counted only post that education. So, you need to calculate how you want to proceed!

See to select a State, I might have given something in articles too, but here's a short version- you need to see what all states have your occupation on there list then check out site like seek.com to see which of those states have better job opportunities (you can try other ways also like asking Oz friends :)) and then evaluating that which state seems better keeping in mind there policies too.

    1. How long does it take to get a reply?
    2. Is there a possibility to get a positive answer.

    1. Hi mate,
sorry to hear that! Generally speaking they give response like 'we had better candidates and had limited seats'.
      1. Each state take its sweet time for this. I am also not experienced if they even consider reviewing cases by requests on mail. Did they have any defined process for that?
      2. Already answered this above. I'd think chances are quite less.
      3. There are different policies for each state - but I have seen people re-apply. At max there would be a some months constraint before which you can not re-apply. But again - read through policies of required state as they keep on changing!
      4. You can chose multiple states in single EOI also - its just that some states would not give you 'thumbs up' if you have applied for multiple states - again different state different policies. Putting multiple eoi for just this reason is not a good idea!
      best of luck mate!

  43. Hi there,

I'm a Singaporean international student, currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at UNSW with majors in Accounting and Finance, and will finish all my courses in June 2014 next year. I will be taking my remaining accounting subjects (I'm taking Audit, Business Taxation, and Management Accounting 2, all the other required Accounting courses have been completed) required for CPA's skill assessment in Semester 2 2013.

In addition, I will be going for a study exchange to America in Semester 1 2014 (my last semester of uni) where I will take 3 finance electives and 1 general education course on exchange (not a big matter for the courses since I have done all my accounting subjects in UNSW by then).

Currently, I have my academic IELTS test score released (I took it on 6th July 2013) and I got at least 7 for all sections (listening 9, reading 9, writing 8.5, speaking 7.5, overall 8.5). I'm born in 1985, so am 28 this year and will be 29 years old when I finish my degree.

    My question is the following:

    1) Can I lodge my EOI before I finish my courses middle of next year? I have completed 2 years of academic courses full load so far, with 16 months of study. By end of this year, I would have finished all my accounting courses and was thinking if I can lodge my EOI then....

    2) If I can only lodge my EOI after I graduate, do I need to wait until I have attended the graduation ceremony (usually that will be many months after your course finish) or can I do it once I have my latest academic transcript after I finish all my courses in middle of 2014?

    3) When can I do my skilled assessment? Is it only after I finish all my accounting courses at end of this year, or must it be when I finish all my degree courses? How long will the skilled assessment process usually take?

    4) Based on my situation, with my 3 year degree and my age (I have no relevant work experience in accounting), I will have exactly 60 points under SkillSelect. Should I retake my IELTS so that I get at least 8 in all categories, and hence 70 points?

    5) How long does it take from time you lodged an EOI to time you get invited to apply? There seems to be a bit of confusion about that on the internet.

    6) How long does it take from the time you actually apply (after being invited) to getting the PR? On the immigration website (http://www.immi.gov.au/about/charters/client-services-charter/visas/8.0.htm), it seems to state that whatever points you get (whether you get 60 or 70 or 80 pts), it will take around 12 months on average for them to process your application to get your PR after applying. The reason I want to know this is because I'll be returning to Singapore after my study exchange in June 2014 to attend my sister's wedding, and if the whole process of lodging EOI, applying and getting the actual PR is going to take more than 1 year, I might need to shift all my stuff back to Singapore first and possibly do an internship or work in a SG job so that I don't waste my time (in case I don't get my PR), since EOI and applying I don't need to be in Australia. I know that if I intend to do that, I need to get a bridging visa - it won't be too difficult right?

    7) Is there any other visas that I can apply under?

    8) Let's say I managed to get the 189 PR visa, do I need to spend the initial 2 years in Australia, or can I work in Singapore first? This is because I was thinking if the waiting time is so long, it makes sense to apply for a graduate job in Singapore first until I get my PR (it will be easier since I'm Singaporean - it is almost impossible to get a decent job in Australia without PR, unless you work as random waiter or sales), then after 2 years in Singapore, maybe come back to Australia to get a middle manager job with my PR?

Sorry for all these questions - it is just that Australia immigration has made things so much more complicated with the introduction of the EOI.

    Many thanks and Regards,
    Ivan

    1. ACS has reduced 2 years from my overall experience of 7.5.so now I have only 10 points for my experience. Will DIAC consider 7.5 years of experience or 5.5..I heard that the new amendment is holding good only in ACS and not DIAC.

    2. My birth date is 11-09-1981 which means I will be completing 32 years in Sep 2013. Will I get 25 points or 30 points for age?

    Your response would be appreciated.

    1. Hi Sri,
      Your welcome!
      1. Yeah ACS is doing that reduction. Not sure about DIAC thing now. But better be safe and claim less points if you would clear 60 mark with that.
      2. You should get 30. But as its calculated at the time of invitation I believe - so depends when you are invited

      Best of luck!

  51. Hi,

I have completed the ACS assessment and the IELTS. After this I completed the EOI and have only 55 points on the selected 189 visa.

I have 0 points for IELTS although a over all average of 7 with 6.5 being the lowest. My partner has a 6.5 with 5.5 being the lowest so I did not include him in the EOI. Also, his skills are not assessed yet.

    My query is

    1. How to get to 65 or 60 points considering the above without having to pay for partner assessment.

    2. Should I opt for both 189 and 190 on a single EOI, what the pros and cons

    3. how to access Australian state jobs and be invited for the jobs

    4. Approximately which state has the most IT jobs requirements

    Thanks

    1. Hi Kiruthika,

      1. Regargind points - you would need to go through all the points description given and see if you can achieve any of the criteria for the additional points. Generally speaking additional points are either scored by IELTS score or partner points. But there may be other ways like NAATI certified, etc.

      2. They have designed the process of EOI so that people can select both 189 and 190 in single EOI, so yes you can do that - there's no harm in doing that. I did it myself.

      3. You can check job sites like Seek.com.au and apply for jobs. Depending on how in demand your skills are, you may or may not be entertained sitting offshore. There are people who have such a hard to find skills that employers get ready to even sponsor them for visa and all.

      4. Depends on IT field you are looking at. Generally speaking Sydney has the most. But again you can check Seek.com.au for checking the same.

      Hope that helps.

there is option to select preference where to apply , but we can select only one state then only we can apply for state sponsorship application , hence is it possible if we submit 2 eoi with two different state selection?

    1. Nikss,
EOI process is such that you can use same EOI to do all this. I believe there's an option of 'any' in state list; you can use the same.
But as I have mentioned in my posts too that some states are picky and would not give you 'sponsorship' if you have applied for multiple states. You would need to do some research on that front.

Yes, there's no where mentioned that you can and no where mentioned that you can not. But I would suggest that you play safe. And in case you need to submit more than 1 EOI then you get the approval from skillselect people first. As you don't want to make this thing a rejection reason later in the process.

    1. Nikss,
I believe that you don't have to explicitly claim age points - its automatically calculated based on your birth date, is not it?
In that case I believe if you get the invite before your 33rd birthday - you would be good as age points will be calculated as of your birthday.

Please note my overall experience is with the same company and is very much relevant to the role that i have applied for.

    1. Dhanasree,

IF you are asking about claiming points then use only number of year which ACS has verified.
But at time of uploading documents - Include all the documents. When in doubt 'do more'.
And also those 2 years form the basis - they are not counted because they act to fill in some gap in education and experience I believe or something on those lines so they need to be proved too.
      Hope that helps.

  59. HI,

First of all thanks for your time and effort to maintain such a nice informative blog.

I have my ACS result under 2613(Developer Programmer) with
8+ year exp and Bachloer in Computer application. Today I received my IELTS score L,R,W,S-6,6.5,6,6.5.
I am filing EOI in under 189 as i have 60 points(age+exp+edu:30+15+15)whereas i have below queries:

1- I am completing 32 year on 30-Nov-13, whereas I have only 3 month time to claim 30 points for age. If I apply now then 30 point will be considered till DIAC?
2- If I exclude my wife visa option at this stage, is there any difficulties to get it on later stage(e.g after a year or once I reached in AUS)
3- In my second company I had some adjustment leave at the time of leaving the organisation and same time I joined another company.
e.g. In exp letter its mentioned 29-Apr-09(Wednesday) but i left company on 24-Apr-13(Friday) and they consider 3 days as leave and I joined another company on 26-Apr-13. Now i try to get some clarification letter from company but they do not haave any records.
But I got thru in ACS.
    Is that create a problem?

    Thanks in advance!

      Your welcome buddy!
      1. I believe that age points will matter at the time of invite. Once invite has recieved then it should not be a problem.
      2. Why would you want to exclude your wife now? If you are already married - better include her, there are not much documents required for secondary applicant and process will be taken care of together. IF you don't include her now and later you want to apply for spouse visa - there may be concern of CO that 'why did you not put her in your application only?'
3.I don't think it will create any trouble. no worries I believe!
      Good luck!

    2. Many many thanks for your prompt reply. This blog is really benificial for many people.

Actly this process will take around 6 month and we are planning for child and my wife might get prgnt..and if this happen i have to wait for long and may be some process or rule change..so I just want to be there as soon as possible and three month condition(Age) is also there with me.

I would like to ask few more question:
1- What is your experience about invitation period, should i expect within this three month of time?
      2- Whereas at http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/
      mentioned below after receiving invitation
"If you receive an invitation and your points have decreased or your personal information is not accurate, you do not have to proceed to make an application. You should correct the information in your EOI and wait to receive another invitation."
what you think age condition will be till invitation ?

      Thanks in advance

I have got the following in my ACS response
"Your Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology from XYZ University completed May 2003 has been assessed as comparable to an AQF Bachelor Degree with a major in computing"

    1) I hope I can claim 15 points for Education (Bachelor degree oversees)?
    2) While filling EOI, Do I need to fill all experience details (10 years) or only experience after May 2007?

NOw that the software engineer 261313 is not show though but I comprehend its a subclass of 2613 as software and application programmers with its ceiling. 1. For Developer prog, SA has less options... Check websites of diff states and take action accordingly.. I would suggest go for 189 as it gives you more mobility within Aus.

Age has nothing to do with IELTS. so if your age is below 32 the 30 points.. You need to have IELTS TRF number while filing EOI else you wont be able to submit it and it will be in Draft state..

    Dates: 02/05 - 05/13 (8yrs 3mths)

I submitted my EOI for 189 on 12 Sep 2013 for the Job Code:2613- Analyst Programmer with 65 points. Was expecting an invite during the 16 September Invitation Round. Didnt get the invite!! :( Probably because the cut-off date given in Skillselect Reports - was 05 Sep 2013 for the 16 Sep invitation round. So, now waiting on the next invite round which I think is supposed to happen on 07 Oct 2013.

    1. What are the chances that I would get the invite in that round considering the ceiling in Skillselect shows 1721 invitations given till date and we still have around 3079 invitations yet to be given for this year for the mentioned Job Code. I am really worried and at the same time excited to move into October month to look for the results. Crossing fingers!!! Can you give me a positive thought on this?!!??

    2. Also, is there a way to know cut-off date for the next invitation round to happen in October??

I need help with a doubt I have.
I and my wife are working in IT in India and I have submitted EOI on 13th Sep 2013 with 5 points for Spouse and a total for 60 points for 189.. I understand there is a delay for 60 pointers and either I need to give IELTS again to score 7 or above band to make my score increased from 60 to 70 or 80 or wait with 60 points..

Now, the situation is that, I have received an offer from a US based company to work in US on H1B and they might ask me to join in US in couple of months ( may be NOv or Dec 2013). In that case, my wife would be leaving her job and moving with me to US as a dependent..

Question: If she leaves her job before I get invite for 189, can I still claim 5 points for spouse?
Or dependent needs to be working till the time of filing the application of visa after getting the invite?

Is there an email address where I can drop an email and get a confirmation on it from Dep of immigration -australia?

I have got my assessment done which says" Your qualification from XXX university completed in Jan 2009 have been assessed as a Professional Engineer (Skill Level l) in Australia. And your code is ANZSCO 263312".
Your above qualification has been broadly comparable to an Australian Bachelor degree.

I have given ILETS twice & the scores are:
    1st time:W=6.5,L=7.5,R=6.5,S=7.5. Overall=7
    2nd Time:W=6.5,L=7.5,R=8,S=7.OVerall=7.5

My query is: I have done my 3 yrs full time diploma in telecom from mumbai unversity completed in 2002. My full time work exp started in 2003 till date in telecom.I did my B-Tech in telecom as a distance Mode studies(which is already assessed)from Jan 2006 to Jan 2009. So can I claim 15 points for my work exp also (icluding the work exp during my studies since it was a full time job). If this is possible then I can get point for age=30, qualification=15 & exp=15, so total=60. or should I try for IELTS once more.

    1. Hi,
You should have received the invite as soon as you got the SS approved. You had your eoi number in the SS application?

Check the information on spouse IELTS score, they are required to acheive very basic score.

      good luck!

  85. Hi Admin,

    I have a query.
I had a total of 6.8 years of experience at the time of ACS skill assessment. As per the current policy, they have only considered my experience after May 2007 as relevant (i.e 4.8 years). With that experience, I have only 60 points. While submitting the EOI, my migration agent had given the entire experience from Feb 2005. Hence points were calculated as 65. And I got an invite to apply for visa considering the points as 65. But I afraid I am in fact eligible only for 60 points as per the acs skill assessment. Do you think I should go with the visa application or should wait for the invite to lapse. The experience assessed by ACS (occupation after May 2007 as relevant) will only be considered by DIAC?
Also after applying for ACS skill assessment, I had joined another company and possess around 2.5 months experience in that job now. Can I wait for another 1.5 months and apply for Visa with the documentation of this employment (which can get me another 4 months to claim points for 5 years and above) or that again needs to be assessed by ACS?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi,
      1. Better to be safe.
      2. if you would have been in same job that was assessed by ACS then it would have been simple. But as you are in different job - it will be required to be assessed again.
      Gud luck!

  86. Hi
As I can see, there are 4 broad categories for Skill assessment like - Engineering Manager, Associate. In case I apply for the skill assessment as an associate, and after getting the visa do I necessarily need to serve in the position of associate when I am there in one of the nominating state ?

    1. Rahul,
There's no such rule that would bind you to do the job as per your skill assessment. So you are free to have a different profile when you move. Although this is not suggested, but still legal.
      Good luck!

    1. Bashid,
      1. You would be required to answer that why are you not including the wife and others if asked. Have you answer ready. Other than that I dont think it will create any problem.
      2. no - when you are cleared from SS, you would get the invite at that time only.
3.Wait till invite then you can get the pcc thing. Other than pcc and meds, prepare everthing now.
      good luck!

  89. Hi Admin,

I have my ASC and IELTS evaluation completed, however I am changing job next month. Can I still submit EOI with the current set of documents or do I need to re do the ACS evaluation due to new employer?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi,
IF you have all your points you need with current valuation then you can go ahead with the current documents. You would need to mention about the job change but you don't have to got it evaluated if you don't need its points.
      Best of luck!

  90. Hi,

I included my wife in my EOI and submitted it; but now I want to change and do not include her. Is it possible? She may apply later, but due to heath reasons, she does not want to apply now.

    Thanks and regards,

    Sam

    1. Yes, you could exclude her, but you would be required to give proper reason for the same. As CO knows that it can not be the case that you would live in Oz and your wife would not.
IF her health is bad that does not mean the medical will result in negative as the medical are checked for specific illness and not general well being.

Check the medical page for more information.

  91. Hello Sir ,
I have done few mistakes in answering some questions in online form that we use to fill for visa 189 . For example it asked me that have you visited Australia before , the answer should be yes but by mistake i wrote no.
Then i filled 1023 form for change of incorrect answers and gave the correct details .
Can you please tel me that was that a right step ? Mistakes that i have made on the form will effect the visa decision ? Or it will be updated without creating any problem
Secondly my Daughter was born on 25 NOV 2013 but i didnt mentioned her in Sec"Dependent Family members who are not including in this application " . For that i used 1022 form . Is this correct ?
CO has not been assigned yet . Please Help me out as i m really stressed about these errors.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi,
IF errors are genuine and you have corrected them with the required method then it should be good. Wait out for the CO.

  94. Hi Admin.

I am an overseas dentist who's cleared ADC exam (skill assessment for dentists) n willing to work in Aus. I tried put up the same query twice but I think on the wrong page that's why it failed to publish I guess. I have a silly query but its troubling me a lot.

I want to apply for visa 189 but not able to arrange 60 points. I am stuck on 55 points n could get required 5 points from work experience option. But there's an issue with it too. I only have the reference letters n work experience certificates from my employers but not the pay slips or any other document to prove my paid employment. I was always paid in cash at the end of the month as I always worked in private clinics. I din't know the importance of pay slips until now (call it my stupidity or ignorance on my part) so never bothered to ask for it. Also the salary was always below the tax slab so never paid or filed tax return. I can arrange pay slips from my current employer but not from the previous ones.
What should I do? Could you please suggest me some option so I could apply for this visa?
    Thank you for your time.

    1. Sonal,
You could try for 190 if eligible, state sponsorship will give you extra 5 points.
Regarding salary, if you can prove that you received salary in cash that might suffice. Show the bank statement where you deposited you salary or something like that.. Get in written from your previous employers about the same.
      Good luck!

  96. Hello,

Thank you for the wonderful blog. Have gained so much of knowledge reading through your blog and the way you have explained everyone's queries dunno how would you make time to reply to each and every query.

Now, i have a query, i have received a positive assessment from ACS and also have 6.5 from ielts which brings my points score to 60. So, i will be filling out epi in a day or two but is this a right time to file an eoi, is the ceiling limit not yet reached? I am planning to to apply for 2611 analyst programmer.

Thank you for your kind reply.

    1. Aj,
Sooner you fill - better it will be. Even if the limit is over then you will be considered next year, which starts in July. EOI is valid for 2 years.
      Best of luck!

  97. Hi,

Its really an informative site.I have few questions.
1.I am a RN,I have started my skill assessment with ANMAC in Jan.I would like to apply for 489 visa. For getting the regional sponsorship do I have to send any direct application to the regional office and to get approval from them by the time I lodge my EOI?
2.Regional sponsorship or relative sponsorship (living in a regional area in NSW) would be more easier and beneficial? My sister will be getting her PR by Feb 2014 and planning to get sponsored by her.
3.If sponsored by my sister do I have to live and work in that place where she is residing or can I try to live and work in the region where this place includes?
