Skill Assessment

You have qualifications and experience - but to prove or get a sort of approval that those are what you say they are. These 'Skills' are assessed by the respective authorities identified by DIAC. To check from where your assessment can be done, do check this site.

Various agencies to get yourselves assessed depending on type of skills:
I can elaborate of details for ACS (Australian Computer Society) - through which I have been.
Basically their system is now completely online, so all the document you need to provide in pdf format - they should be scan of certified/notarized photocopy of originals.

Given below is the process to apply there:

Skill Assessment for Australia1. Studies: Gather Marksheets and Certificates for:
- High school (may not be required, but still)
- Bachelors
- Masters
- Whatever course you did and like to have assessed.

2. Work: Gather Letter on HR head of the company, stating:
 - Duration you worked for the company
 - Designation
 - Full time or Part time
 - Permanent or Temporary
If this can not be taken under HR letter head then this should be in statutory declaration format (on legal/stamp paper). This should be signed by and in wording of person who is referring you - person who refers you should be either your manager or at-least 2 roles higher than you. Regarding the format of Statutory declaration for ACS assessment, please check:
One of the comments below this article: By Administrator on March 31, 2013 at 9:10 AM
Also check comment below this article : By Adminstrator on April 5, 2013 at 6:33 PM

In addition to that, include that person's ID card and Business card photocopy too.
Also gather experience certificate if you have it as separate.
Also note the work experience obtained during or before the time period of study may be acknowledged/counted if you are getting that study assessed; but this will NOT be considered by DIAC - so do not count this in your calculation while filling EOI.

3. Gather general documents:
 - Birth Certificate (not mandatory)
 - Passport
 - CV (not mandatory)

3. Visit ACS website here - here you can use the link for individual online application; register your self and start uploading documents using the wizard shown.

4. When you are done with uploading all the documents asked, last step is to pay 450$, when you do that - application would be submitted and you would get an e-mail stating the same and giving you details of how to check online status of the application. In usual time - the result should come out from 4 to 6 weeks.

This is the life cycle of ACS application as per what I have seen and read about:

Stage 1: Application received
Stage 2: Someone (may be Assessor or not) is checking whether it is complete and decides whether it goes to Stage 3 or 4
Stage 3: Incomplete, waiting for more Documents (Applicant would get e-mail asking for missing docs with time limit of 28 days- if you do not provide anything in these days - application would be processed as such)
Stage 4a (With Assessor): It's assigned to an Assessor and now is in his/some queue.
Stage 4b (In Progress): Assessor is actually working on it
Stage 5: Finished, mailing out results.

These are rough estimates to the time it takes in separate stages for ACS application:
1 -> 2: same or next business day
2 -> 4a or 3: 1 to 7 days
3 -> 4a: when docs are received.
4a -> 4b: 3-6 weeks
4b -> 5: 1 to 7 days.

Note - Near and After Dec - time duration increased by 3-4 weeks due to holiday season! ACS remains closed for around 3 weeks in Dec-Jan time. So you will see with assessor stage for a long time in ACS application around this time.

** Roles and responsibilities are not very simple thing - you should first check in which ANZSCO code you would fit in in terms of your skills. You can check more about ANZSCO codes here.
This ANZSCO code is quite a big thing - as per on which code you are assessed may define if your skill is in high demand or not; and also each code has separate ceiling count which tells the maximum number of people that will be invited under that particular code.
You also would need to look into roles of ANZSCO codes and not just the title. For that, you can start at main index here and go deeper as per your role, for example for 2613 group, here:

Even this code guides if you can even apply for 189 or 190 visa. You can check this in criteria mentioned on PR page

Go forward to EOI Australia page.

    1. Thanks for kind words!
I applied by my own - no agents.
For my case I used ACS - so am afraid I don't have much on TRA - but seeing the link I gave for TRA, it does NOT seem to be an online process. Check the link and read the process given in the steps at bottom of that page.
Experience certificate should not be a problem, generally roles and responsibility letter is a problem getting from company - ACS, accepted the statutory declaration on stamp paper in word of my manager/senior.
Hopefully that would work for TRA too.

      Best of luck!

I had few questions in my mind --

    1. I have done my B.com, however I have an Experience in IT Industry as a System Admin for about 5+ years Now.

    2. Would you be able to comment if ACS would Consider the Profile?

    1. Hi Vineet,
      Thanks! Glad its helping out.
Basically your graduation should be relevant to ICT Degree. If your bachelor is different than your ICT experience, then still you can apply to ACS via RPL (Recognition for Prior Learning). You can check ACS site: http://www.acs.org.au/migration-skills-assessment/information-for-applicants for some applicant guidelines.
Am not too aware about this route though!
Hope you through this soon. Best of luck!

  3. Thank you. This is much helpful. But I really need to know, shall I able to catch the 17th April EOI? I am in very tens about this issue.

I moved to stage 4 on 27th February, As per your calculation

4a- will take 3-6 weeks, that's mean ( 3rd April it will be completed)
    4b- may be 2 or 3 days.

So I am assuming I will be able to catch 17th April EOI slot.

Can you please verify it? Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Firoj,
      Your welcome.
See, I also mentioned that this was prior to Dec, post Dec time got around doubled; current trend its taking around 2 months to complete. And no-one can say definitely that when will you get the result; we can just guess - my best guess would be 2months.
But I do hope you get it when you want it.. best of luck :)

    1. Thanks Dinish,
Format of statutory declaration is not very strict, basically it's in manager's wording describing your joining date, designation and mention why this letter was not give under HR head (eg. company policy) then mention roles and responsibilities point wise-at last comes signs (yours, your managers, notary's) and notary stamps. First page should be stamp paper; so basically first page will have only few lines (as space on stamp paper is less) - rest of text would come on next pages which would be A4 plain sheets only.
Hope this helps; best of luck!

    1. Hi Nimro,
No, you don't need to post hard copies in any step of PR. For ACS (assessment) and DIAC (Visa application) - you just need to scan copies and upload them.
For ACS - you need to scan certified copies.
For DIAC - You can either scan certified or original color copies.
Best of luck with the process!

  6. Best site giving the info for aus PR till now
I too want to do it without the assistance from consultant. I have worked for 4 companies in my 6yr career, and I am just with 60 points.
Firstly do i need reference letter from all 4 companies ?
and 60 points would be enough ?
I am planning to apply for ACS post July 2013, so as to fill-in quota of next-year, just thought it would be better to wait for full year quota than submit now.I am from networking background

    1. Hello Raj,
Nice to see info is helping out!

Yes, you would need reference letter from all employers. 60 is enough and also minimum requirement. Current trend is that person with 60 points is invited if his occupation count limit has not still reached ceiling for this year. But - beware that when this system was introduced in July last year, applicants who lodged EOI with 60 in July started to get invites months later - reason being it was new system and many people were waiting to apply in July (this would happen now too - expect many people to start process in July like you) - which created long queue. Other was that initially DIAC kept the invite count low - then started increasing the same each month - may be testing there process. So be prepared with that in mind. Also it would be better if you have atleast IELTS cleared till July and ACS documents ready. And hope system remains more or less the same :)

      Best of luck!

  7. Thanks so much for the reply. I have few more questions. Please help answering these
So what if ceiling is filled after i apply, will it be taken forward for the next year quota
Suppose if i get my skill assessment done before July and I apply for EOI after that, does that come under next year quota
and i think i need IELTS score only after Skills assessment ?

I have 60points, so to get this fast forwarded and for preference with 65pts, i am planning to get state sponsorship, what do you suggest ?
I am still not sure how to get in touch with the earlier companies..be it HR or Mgr, I mean they may not be working there now etc etc..
What are the documents needed for spouse..does she need to clear Skill assessment and IELTS just like me.

    1. Are spouse dependents under 189 or 190 allowed to work without any restrictions

      Delete
    2. Yes - Spouse will also have PR like you. Hence same rights.
There's quota on super set of this; not all elements under it. So as long as your code's super set has remaining qouta - you are good!

      Delete
  8. Raj,
    - If ceiling is hit after you apply and before you get invite-then you would need to wait till next year qouta - as EOI is valid for 2 years.
    - Skill assessment and IELTS are independent of each other - but both are required before EOI. But generally people give IELTS first (who are counting points from IELTS) as scoring 7 is not everyone is confident of; and if you don't hit score you want going for skill assessment would waste time and money!
    - If get 5 points from State - that would be for 190 visa. 189 EOI will still have 60 points. So what you can do fill EOI with both 189 and 190; then apply for SS - and wait which of these comes first! Hope you have read eligibility criteria of 189/190.
    - For spouse docs - check the eVisa page of this blog if not claiming partner points. If claiming for partner points check 'pr and points' page.

    1. Last question
Suppose if i get my skill assessment done before July and I apply for EOI after July, will it be valid ? what I am trying to tell is I would write IELTS and apply for skill assessment(since all these takes time). Once that is done, I will try to apply EOI before July. so that even if ceiling is filled, this would be taken in next year quota (even with changed rules(if any) I believe)
My questn: Once I am ready to apply for EOI..is it advisable to apply before July or post July for next year? Do they give invites for prev. year even in the next year if there is pending visas under spec. quota from last year
      2. Where can i check the current status of quota(how many filled for this year) for a given code, i could not find anywhere
Once again, thanks a lot for helping out. I could make decisions faster.
When i contact consultant before, i was told skill assessment was a test to be written based on your occupational skills, which seems completely out of ring. So i want to think twice.

      Delete
    2. - EOI is valid for 2 years as mentioned.
      - If you fill EOI prior to july - you should be following this years rule as your process has started - but not sure if and how much qouta will be refilled. (or that ANZSCO is in even in SOL list) - for Link, its mentioned on EOI page.
      - If qouta is pending try to submit well before so that you get invite before July - as you would not know if that particular anzsco is still there or not after July!

      Hope that clarifies.

You can get it notarized by any advocates sitting near court for creating affidavits and notarization. Eg: In Delhi, near DC (Janak Puri) or Tis hazari.

Just an add-on to that - some people have also used plain A4 sheet and notarized it; but many have gone with stamp paper plus notarization - I guess A4 should also work; but I would recommend going with stamp paper just to be on safe side!

  11. Hi,

    Thanks for the superb blog.
I have couple of questions that I want to ask in a sequence to keep things simple. Hope to get assistance.

I already have IELTS result and want to apply as ICT Business Analyst but I know that ceiling has been reached for this year. Questions are:

    1. Should I wait for new year Business Analyst quota and then apply for ACS? Or proceed now?

    2. Can I submit the EOI even when ceiling has been reached?

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Athar - always nice to see good comments - thanks:)
      1. If you already have +ve ACS assessment then do submit your EOI asap - no harm in doing it. If you dont have ACS as of now - then you might want to wait till july as mentioned on PR and Points Page of this blog.
      2. EOI is valid for two years so if you submit now, for when new qouta has been assigned next year, you will be in queue to get invite as per basis of points and of time of EOI submission (if points are same)

      Best of luck!

    2. Thanks dude for detailed and immediate feedback.

As you suggested, If I have ACS then I should apply ASAP. I want to explain my scenario on this and need your valuable advice.

Actually, I got positive ACS assessment in 2011 as Business Analyst and that time my experience was 6.4 years. That letter is expired now.

Continuing same job with same designation, now I have 8 years experience. To claim 15 points for 8 years:

      1) Should I launch a new ACS application (to get 8 years experience on ACS letter)

      OR

      2) My old ACS letter with new validity date (ACS Re-Validation) along-with updated reference letter from current employer will be enough for DIAC as evidence of 8 years experience?

So, if you suggest that I should get ACS now then which option should I opt from above? OR shouldn't I opt any of the above until July 2013?

Please help as I am confused whether to apply for ACS now OR not. If apply then which option to choose, New ACS Application OR ACS Re-Validation?

      Regards,
      Athar

    3. Hi Athar,
      Couple of things -
1 - If result of re-validation and new assessment would be same - I believe then re-validation would result in faster turn around.
2 - If you get ACS assessed now then you would be able to lodge EOI before July - but nobody knows how would quota declaration be - it's anybody's guess. So basically getting acs done now would keep you ahead in eoi queue but also face some risk of no quota of BA declared. But seeing the trend BA quota should be there. Its your call!

      Delete
    4. 1. I sent email to ACS and got reply that ACS Re-validation letter will be issued with new expiry date without any change in content of previous letter. It means I will get positive assessment letter still with 6.4 years While my current experience is 8 years.

Will ACS Re-Validation letter along-with updated reference letter from my employer (still working in same company) will be enough for DIAC as evidence of 8 years experience?

      2. You are right, we can just guess about BA quota for next year. I hope it will be there so would like to submit EOI before July. Please just confirm me should I go with New ACS or ACS Re-validation as asked in point #1.

Thanks once again for bothering me with all such specific questions.

    5. Athar, From what I have read - DIAC should consider extra time you have spent in same job for which you already have assessment if you are providing supporting docs. So, you should be good!

My ACS letter contains 70 months experience while current experience is 96 months. So am I supposed to provide 26 months salary slips and bank statement?

    4. Hi dude,

Last night, I submitted ACS application for re-validation and in parallel filled the EOI (didn't submit yet). I have few confusions on which I need your advice.

      1. In EOI, Points Tested Skilled Migration section contains different visa options. I selected Visa 189. Should I also select Visa 190 and Employer Sponsor to increase the chances? What do you suggest?

      2. In EOI, question related to family,

Are there any family members the client would like to include in a future application?
      How many family members?
Would the client be accompanied by the client's partner in a future application?

      My answers are:
      1) Yes
      2) 1 (my wife)
      3) Yes
Are my answers correct? We are expecting baby by Sept. Should I mentioned TWO for question # 2? Please advise on this.

      3. IELTS information, I entered like this
      Listening score 7.5
      Reading score 8.5
      Written score 6.5
      Speaking score 6.5
      and got
      Language ability 6.5
But in my IELTS report, overall band is 7.5 Why it's different in EOI?

      4. Should I wait to receive ACS re-validation letter before submitting EOI OR can I submit it with old ACS reference number/date and then update the information once get the letter? I am not sure will I be able to update ACS information after submitting or not. Please advise.

      5. I heard that re-validation takes only 2-3 days but as per reply by ACS officer on my application, re-validation can take between 4-6 weeks. Do you have any idea on this?

Many Thanks for your time and continuous support that made be enable to start the process.

    5. Hi again,
Nice to you already rolling, here:

      1. For 190 - If you've read the process in blog, then you would know you would have to apply for sponsorship separately, its your wish if you want to go that route too. For Employee Sponsored - I would not suggest that; no one gets that unless you are really highly seeked professional - and this route is generally taken when you already have employer ready I guess!

      2. Yes, ans is good! Baby - okay; that would put things in for a spin - give me a day; I will add this info in blog itself as its will be a bit big explaination. Bear with me!

      3. That is expected - it picks the least score, not average! That is why you would not get any points for this. As for 10 points - you need to score min 7 in each module!

      4. You can update the information after submitting but before getting invite - check EOI page for info on editing EOIs.

      5. I just know that it takes relatively less time - how much, am not sure about! Hope for the best!

    6. Thanks once again for your continuous help.

      1. I checked all SMP and found only South Australia state who's giving BA sponsorship but currently closed because of ceiling. So, for now, I am only selecting Visa 189.

      2. OK. I will wait for your feedback. Thanks for your efforts bro.

      3. OK. I got it.

      4. I reviewed the Edit EOI information from your page. It says "You can edit your submitted EOI before getting an invite - and edit details - but if you alter details that change your points then your effective date of submission of EOI would change".

In my case, definitely, I won't be getting invite before 1st July because of ceiling. Secondly, I will have to only update ACS information after EOI submission. I already have got new ACS reference number last night by automated email. Now the only issue is ACS Date. For now, I put it Today's date (9th April 2013). Let's say I got the letter after 2 weeks (22nd April). I will need to update ACS date in EOI.
Do you think will it affect points calculation? I don't think so but now your advise boost my confidence :)
I know it first-come-first-server that's why want to submit EOI ASAP.

Thanks for your time and understanding.

    7. Hey Athar, Regarding EOI - I guess you can fill in current date and change again; in worse situation effective date would change and if you don't submit now then anyhow effective date would be the date when you submit - so I think you got nothing to lose; so execute your thought!

    1. Hi [A Name to refer to would have been good :)],
      For ACS:
      1. For ACS, designation name does not matter: what you have provided as roles and responsibilities act as decider, if what you have provided matches with the description of prog developer atleast 80% then you should be good.
      2. Guess the degree you have is ICT major (see above comment for ICT major description), right?
      3. It would take around 2 months to get your result.
      For IELTS:
      1. 7 is not difficult but its not that easy either. well, depends on person to person. IELTS is knowing English PLUS knowing techniques of IELTS too.
      2. Get a date- and you will be able to prepare better knowing that date is fixed.
Best of luck for both the things!

  16. Hi,

Thanks for the write up, it was real helpful. Like many others even I wish to get ACS valuation done before July so that I can apply for PR post July once new SOL is available.

I have some questions with ACS Documents:

    1. These PDF's have to be attested, it is acceptable if an Indian Public Notary does that or you need to get docs attested by some specific person(s) / agency.

    2. Statutory declaration in leu of HR letter should be on stamp paper as per you statement earlier. Can you kindly confirm the value of stamp paper required (e.g. 10 rs, 50 rs, 100 rs etc)

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Kapil,
Your Welcome buddy! Here's my response:
      1. Yup - Indian Public Notary is good. Make sure you have 'attested true copy', 'valid outside India' and general date and sign stamps put on it. Valid outside India is costly-you have to bargain on that. Better go to a place where many notaries sit (near court or something) to have bargaining edge!
      2. Rs. 10 Stamp paper will do. I used the same. Also, there are people who used plain paper too and got +ve ACS; but most use stamp paper so I would suggest the same!
Hope that helps - Best of Luck!

    1) How much time generally they take for evaluation ?
    2) I have work ex letter of my previous two organizations which does not mention work I did but just mentions designation. How should I proceed with that ?

    1) They have their current trend listed on their site. Its 4-6 week for accredited and 19 weeks for non-accredited qualifications. Check: https://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/about-us/migration-skills-assessment
    2) I believe roles are essential. This document should be your guide - please follow instructions given on this for any and everything:

ACS is completely based on what you produced as roles and responsibility content Vs the ANZSCO you chose - if they are found matching atleast 80 or so percent - then it should be positive.
Hope for the best. Best of Luck!
Keep in mind - they are taking around 2months to finalized assessment these days.

  25. Hi,

I have completed my Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA) and MS(IS) Master's in Information Systems from same Osmania University, India. Moreover, I have 9+ years of experience on Oracle DBA (ANZSCO: 262111 (Database Administrator)) and my age is 33yrs and my total points achieved is 55.(IELTS overall 6.5, Minimum points is 6). Based on my points I understood that I have to apply for State sponsorship to reach 60 points.

    Questions/ Queries:

    1) As per "http://www.acs.org.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/7324/Summary-of-Criteria.pdf";
    I'm worried about loose points?

    2) Which state(s) do I qualify for State Sponsorship?

    2. Hi,

      Thanks for your reply...
As per "http://www.acs.org.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0016/7324/Summary-of-Criteria.pdf". I understood that I come under ICT Major; but I'm not clear about the "Required Work Experience : 2 year relevant to ANZSCO".

      Questions / Queries:

      1) As mentioned, I have 9+ years of experience and my ANZSCO is 262111 (Database Administrator). Is ACS is not considering 1st two (ICT Major) or four (ICT Minor) years? If that is the case I will be loosing 5more points out of 55points (without state sponsorship); that will result to 50points.

      2) Moreover, if DIAC is also considering in the same manner as ACS is doing, I will not qualify for PR.

Please correct me if I'm on wrong path of understanding.
I am also worried and very much concern about loosing points on this basis. So held my ACS submission.

      Thanks in advance,

    3. Hey Vamsi,
No - that is not how it is. That is minimum criteria thing - you don't need to worry about that!
If you have required proof of all 9 years - ACS will honor all of it! And so will DIAC.

Just additional info - might not be related to you: do make sure that experience is after the education. As ACS might give okay for experience before education but DIAC does not!

I am just wondering if my application would be back from stage 4 to stage 3 if assessor thinks more documents are needed.

  28. Hi,

I have a query on ACS Skills Assessment and DIAC way of assessing. I have B.E ECE and 6.5 years of experience, among which 2 years of experience had been showcased to ACS by self declaration. Most probably they wont consider that 2 years of my work.

Recently ACS wordings in Assessment letter has been changed as per Expat forum members.

There is a rule change happened after I submit skill assessment. As per new rule, for non computing courses(mine was ECE) need 4yrs minimum experience to meet criteria. They used to consider total yrs of exp for point calculation but now they will not consider first 4 yrs to calculate points.

Since DIAC assesses it in different way, i dont know what should be my work experience in EOi. I have payslips, offer letter and relieving letter for all my employment.

    Kindly assist.

    Thanks,
    Venu

    1. Hi Venu,
Am assuming you did have all the reference/manager-declaration for rest 4.5 years. Even if rule did change, you would not be impacted; right?
Also, when you have got the ACS result - it mentions that how many years are assessed as relevant to the code selected - you have to mention the same number of years in EOI as relevant to code, rest would be marked is not relevant - points will be calculated automatically!
For DIAC - ACS is a kind of advice, DIAC itself also checks for the genuineness of the experience, but if ACS does not give thumbs up to particular duration, DIAC would also not consider it!
      Hope that helps! Good luck!

For skill assessment what I have done, I have attested my all relevant Education certificate and Experience letter certified by an authorised person (JP Australia) and upload via the On-line Application Form through ASC website. I am just one step away to submit my all relevant documents.

      1. While uploading my Experience letter (Pdf file format) there is options to select Attachment type, for attachment type have three values: Organization chart, Reference, Statutory declaration and I have selected Attachment type is Reference, as I am having my experience letter, want to confirm is it right type?

      2. I am not getting experience certificate from my current organization for which currently I am working in Australia; can I submit my offer letter? They will accept?

    2. Hey Robin,
I have listed in article above the required documents.
See Point#2 - all those sub points under it are required to be either on company letter head or statutory declaration - content and who can give this declaration is also given in the article above. Please take time to read and understand - as ACS is quite strict about these points. So better prepare these before applying otherwise they will give just 30 days to provide any missing thing. Let me know if something is not clear!

  31. Hello

Thank you for all this wonderful information. You are really helping a lot of people. I wonder if I could ask a quesiton, and I hope it wasn't asked already above and I missed it:

I am looking at the possibility of moving to Australia to work. I have an Electrical Engineering degree from the US. I would like to go into an Electronics Engineering role in Australia, and have worked full time in a position in a corporation here for the past 8 years. However, the job I have here isn't categorized as electronics engineering. It's called "process engineering", and so even though it has elements of electronics, isn't likely to look to the assessing people like electronics engineering, and isn't likely to be described that way by my manager, who I would ask to write my reference, when he fills out the "roles and responsibilities" section. Now, I definately do have the skills I need for the position, but is there anything I can do to prove it other that that bosse's reference letter, or am I in trouble?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer this and so many other people's questions!

    1. Hi J,
Roles and responsibilities that would be on either letter head or statutory declaration - would be the criteria to define what skills you have! They can not assess what you know - they would assess you based on what you are working on! Guess that is not what you want - but that's how it works.
Hope it helps! Best of Luck!

  32. Hi,

I recently heard that, since May 1st 2013, ACS has changed the way of assessing applicant's work experience, especially applicants with Non-IT educational qualification. E.g. ACS is reducing 5 yrs of work experience from the total number of years for applicants with Bachelors Degree in Electronics and Communication.

I'm an engineering graduate with 6 years of work experience and I've got IELTS of band 7 in all. However, as I have a bachelors degree in Electronics and Communication, ACS is going to acknowledge only 1 year of my experience. This would make me fall short of the points that I get for my work experience.

Please confirm, if this is true and if this has been formally notified by ACS?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi,
I do NOT believe that this is true - ACS has changed things, but just to the level of 'communication' - from what I know! They have changed the wording in the result now, but process remains the same.
They just mention criteria also in the assessment result now! I'd still encourage you to call ACS or mail ACS to confirm this.
Hope this helps. Best of Luck!

    1. Hey Arnav,
If you can get hold of your x-manager and get reference from him; plus proof that your manager was an employee of the same company and some article online (on web) that company has closed will support your case.
On other hand - if your wife has good score, she can be primary - no problem! When PR is approved, all members in the application gets PR - irrespective of primary or dependent! Their may a be minor condition on secodary applicant such as can not enter prior to primary applicant in Australia Or - can not re-marry before entering Australia; sounds funny but at max these type of condition would be on your PR which will not matter once you are in Australia - all applicant would have same rights. No issue in job search also! Check my 'Got Visa, now what?' page for similar information!
Hope that helps; best of Luck!

Its not about luck in the Australia migration process - its all well defined and streamlined; thanks to Australia skill select process.
As I have given on my PRs and Points page - you can check how much points you will get and see if you equal or cross the minimum required points which is 60 at the moment!
Also - as you degree is not ICT related, you would be required to go through RPL route which requires around 6 years of experience, I believe - you would have to check on that.

    1. Hi Harikrushna,
All experience would be counted if it can be proved that company is/was genuine. Even if company closed down - you can show any online article or something that can strengthen your case. Other than that - you need to get reference letters for all the experience you want to show. The points mentioned in my article above are mandatory - including 'full time' - so it should be present either in reference itself or in some additional letter under company letter head or notarized letter for 2-level senior or manager!
Hope that helps! Best of Luck!

I did my Masters in Computer applications which is equivalent to ICT Major.

And as of now i am having 5.2 year of relevant IT experience which is relevant to applying ANZCODE as well.

Out of my total 5.2 year experience, initial 11 months worked as trainee and paid by employer.( Entire 5.2 years’ experience was relevant as per Master education ).

As per new rules in ACS, I understand that there is 2 year of Experience Deduction.

Will you deduct from 5.2 of total experience - 2 years as per ACS rule and finally 3.2 year as a skilled employment that you are going to give ?

    Or

5.2 year of total experience -11 months training period = 4.3 Years - 2 years as per new rule and finally 2 .3 year as a skilled employment that you are going to give?

Anticipating your response at the earliest!

Firstly I have my Acs result with me, but that was validility only for 50 points.because I was holding only 4.7 yrs of work experience (oct-2012) and they considered only 5 points.

I wrote my Ielts and got the result overall 7 band with minimum 6.5 in each module.

    Inorder to get State sponsorship

Do I need to apply Acs again to gain 55 points and 5 points for sponsorship to hit EOI 60 required?

Do I need to go for Ielts again and get 7 in each band and apply for EOI with available Acs result?

What are possibilities fo States to sponsor for a minimum score of 6.5 in each module?

    Your suggestions/feedbacks are highly appreciated

    1. Hey Puneet,
      1. If you are in same job continued which was shown last at ACS then you do not need to apply acs again - some proof that you are in same job would suffice to show that you have now crossed 5 years. But if you have changed job before completing 5 then if you want more score on experience, you would have to go to ACS again - BUT do keep in mind that ACS has now changed rules with new cutting of years of experience - make sure you are known to the new rules before going forward - till now its not very clear a picture!
      2. you can definitely try to get more points in IETLS to gain points.
      3. State sponsorship is something for which each state has different rules - so you would need to check each state's site for that! Each has different criteria on IELTS score too - like VIC need minimum 7 in IETLS.
Hope that helps. Best of Luck!

    1. Hi Ankit,
      Thanks for the kind words.
ACS will give positive result based on the provided roles and responsibilities for the job, so if you match up to at least 80% of the role description of Dev programmer, then you should be good.
But before proceeding there are changes that ACS has introduced in there rules that you should read and understand.
Also, for the applicants who do not have ict related degrees they need to go through RPL route - so make sure that by new rules you are eligible with this experience to use RPL - earlier it was 6 years but am guessing its increased now.
Hope that helps - best of luck!

    1. Hi, Same with me. I submitted on April 22nd and havent heard anything from them yet. I am a BE in ECE. Do you know how much experience with they reduce ?

    2. Hi -
      1. They will generally produce result in between 2 to 2.5 months.
      2. Not to worry - just wait and watch!
      3. Yes, they have changed the wording of the result - they seem to have reduced some years from experience - though we don't know the effect of the same with DIAC yet.
I guess that I read for ECE - its 3 to 4 years. Hope for the best though.
Keep me posted - best of Luck!

  40. Hi Friend,

    I have few Questions:

    1. I have 60 points without IELTS points and I got 6.5 minimum score in IELTS [Overall 7]. Can I apply for state sponsorship ?

Should I re-write IELTS to get 7 and apply for ACS?

Different states have different requirement, and they do keep changing. You would need to check on different states. I have given links to all state's site on this blog somewhere, or you can google it!

  41. Hello,
First of all, many thanks for sharing such detailed information about the process. And also for answering the queries posted here. Bravo!

I am planning to submit my ACS evaluation soon. Situation is, I have 6+ years of relevant ANZSCO code experience. Now the ANZSCO code profile for this year has hit the ceiling, which indicates a high demand for the particular code. Now my worry is given the rush this year, next year the slots may not be available. Should I submit ACS evaluation or wait for next year slots to be available?

    Kindly suggest.

    1. Hey there..
Its basically notarizing your documents. That can be done at any advocates who's got the stamp like 'certified true copy' 'valid outside india' etc.
Some description given in ACS part of my story.
You can find advocates near where the courts are. Perhaps dial to 'just dial' and you will know.
      Best of Luck!

  43. Hello,

Thanks for all the great insights that you provide into the process. I wanted to check if it's alright for me to certify true copies from different authorities as some of my documents are back home in India while the rest are with me here abroad.
Your response will be highly appreciated.

That should work as it does not matter if one person is certifying or multi person is doing that as long as they are certified.

  44. Hi Admin,

Thanks for your post. I want to ask one question. I work my job before getting the bachelor degree. However, I got another of certificate but I did not submit them. Now I want to submit them to ensure the experience of my first job. How can I do that if my assessment status has been in stage 4 since 7 weeks. Is there any chance for me to submit my additional document? I should have read the guideline carefully but at that time I really have no experience.
I am looking forward to receiving you response.

    1. Hi Autumnscent - you can not submit any document until you have heard from your CO even once (as in that case you would have his/her e-mail address).
Also, when your CO thinks you are short on documents - s/he should ask for it.
You can check in any mail from ACS that if they have mentioned any way to submit any additional documents - I don't think there is.
IF not then now just wait and watch your application progress.
Hope for the best - best of luck!
      Keep me updated!

      Thanks for your helping.

I have received my assessment a moment ago. They reduced 2 years experience. I have a bit confusion when fill the EOI. Is is correct if I fill the day which ACS assess my experience?

In addition, my job in first company took about 1 year. That means the work experience in this company is reduced. In that case, will I submit the related document of my first job to DIAC?

I hope to hear from you soon,

      Thanks and Regards,

  45. Hi,

Nice Article! I have 7 years of experience in Information Security field with certifications like CISA and CISSP. My experience revolves around compliance, application security and Incident Management. However, when I went through the job description for ICT security specialist(190 - code -262112), it has only following security related description:

    1. performing the operational establishment and preventive maintenance of backups, recovery procedures, and enforcing security and integrity controls.

    2. Accepting responsibility for the processes, procedures and operational management associated with system security and disaster recovery planning.
    3. liaising with security vendors, suppliers, service providers and external resources; analysing, recommending, installing and maintaining software security applications; and monitoring contractual obligations, performance delivery and service level agreements.
    4. preparing and maintaining documentation, policies and instructions, and recording and detailing operational procedures and system logs.

Currently, The description mentioned above is only small part of roles and responsibility which security specialist do.I have done only 50 percent of the description mentioned above, their are other roles and responsibilities which are included in my profile.

I will be preparing notarized affidavit signed by my Manager mentioning my roles and responsibilities. Is it necessary to mention the above mentioned roles and responsibilities only. Also, could you please help me with affidavit format.

    Thanks,

    1. Hi Mudita,
      1) MCA might bring down experience as diac will see exp after study is complete - so your call either post grad points or exp points.
2)nope - it has to be as per acs - hr letter head or stat declaration in wording of senior/manager!
      3) I believe new SOL list are out. Ceiling - am not sure; but I have given link in my articles to check the ceiling on diac site.

    3) Whether my selection of occupation matches my experience given above.

    1. Hey Ammus,
      Thanks for the kind words.
      1) ACS rules has recently changed. EArlier it was something on the lines that >40% of ict content is required to be called ict major! Now - you would have to check on ACS guideline doc. Let me also know, what you find out!
      2) occupation matches the qualification if qualification is ict major.
      3) occupation matches the experience ? - this depends on the role and responsibilities as I explained in the article above that role name is not important the duties performed is important for ACS to assess your application.
Also note that ACS has introduced some new rules and cut out some experience based on the qualification if its not ict major!
Hope that helps a bit. Keep me posted - best of luck!

I am Sam did my Diploma in Information Technology (Full time - 2003 pass out) and did part time MCA with Sikiim Manipal University ( 2008 pass out). I having 9.7 years of experience in software development( from Nov 2003 to till now) which was matching my education qualifications and contents for the Software engineer. I would like apply Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) by mid of July 2013, but I may have to go to other country for some onsite assignment from next 1 year from August 2013. My plan is to start Skill assessment by mid of July 2013 and follow up rest of the process from other country. My questions are

    1) are my points going to be reduced if I show my part time degree (MCA) ? what do you say?
    2) is there any risk in submitting IELTS certificate which we can do from other countries?
    3) do we need to inform ACS if i am traveling to other country after Skilled assessment submission?
    4) any other risk do you foresee in my case?

    Thanks for your time.

      1. Yes - Diac only counts experience years after the max qualification you are claiming points for.
      2. I don't think so - if you are genuine, you can show proof that you were there for so and so reason and prove that by passport pages.
      3. Nope - ACS does not need to be informed I believe!

Nice to see people finding this helpful :)
See - even if you submitted application together and similar - but it does not have necessarily gone to same CO, hence it could follow different style of processing. Generally, if CO wants more documents - s/he asks for the same at starting itself! But, I have seen cases where applicants are asked for more documents after a month or so too! So, I would suggest that you too have the asked extra documents handy - it may be your turn too later. But don't be surprised if you are not asked at all! You know different CO - different ways!

Meanwhile, I have got My IELTS cleared with Avg score 8 but Min in each is 7. can you advise how much time this may take as some guys got it in 4 weeks also before?
Second thing is: I did MS ( Part time) while working full time( 4 years)and BCA full time. I have more than 8 years of full time experience in total including the period of MS study. what do you think, to get the 15 points for work experience; should I show BCA and 8+ years work exp.OR MS (part time)and 8+ will also be ok?

    1. Hey Batra,
Am currently seeing ACS is taking quite long time. Write to them if it has crossed there mentioned timeline on their site.
Also for points - I'd suggest go with grad + experience.
As if you claim for masters - DIAC will count only years of exp after your max education you are claiming points for then you might be in pickle.
      Hope that helps!

  57. Hi ,

I had applied for skill assessment on 6th April 2013, and got the assessment result on 28th July.
Today , i started filling submit of EOI, and found an error in the assessment letter.

My employment was with two companies.
    1. From Niv 2009 to May 2010
    2. May 2010 till date

In the assessment letter pdf , It is mentioned that
"The following employment after Nov 2011 is considered to equate to work at an appropriately skilled level and relevant to 261312 (Developer programmer) of ANZSCO code"

So, does that mean that my employment was assessed positively only for Nov 2011 till date (1.6years) only... or they made a mistake in the letter , they should have written Nov2009 making it Nov 2009 till date (3.5 years).

Is there a way to contact you directly?

    Waiting for your reply..

    Thanks,
    Silky Agarwal

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hey Silky,
New ACS rules apply for new assessment, they are deducting experience depending on minimum experience required to become skilled.
Although DIAC's take on that is not clear as to would this deducted experience would be counted or not. If your points reach 60 without that deducted experience - go ahead and apply without that. Otherwise it would be gamble coz we don't know that would DIAC count those deducted experience. Hope that helps.

Currently, no private contact available; as I do not charge for this :)

    Best of luck!

I am working in my current company for the past 3 years and I will get an employment verification letter from my HR on company letter pad with details such as - joining date, designation etc. But it will not include roles & responsibilities. I have a colleague who is willing to give me a statutory declaration containing all the necessary details including roles & responsibilities. He is not at my supervisory level, but i think that is not a mandatory requirement. The issue is that he joined in the company one year after me. So he has got only nearly 2 years of experience with the company. Is he allowed to give statutory declaration for my 3 years of employment? How the verification is done by ACS? Will ACS contact the colleague/company for verification?

  67. Hi There...First of all I want to thank you for your help...this seems to be the most amazing and helpful blog for aspiring PR applicants like us....

My husband is trying to apply for PR this July. We have got ACS and the IELTS score is 6.5. He has worked in Australia 1.5 years from 2009 to 2010 on a 457 visa sponsored by an Indian company. Then he came to Australia in 2012 and he has been working here for 1 year now. He has always worked with the same company throughout his 6 years work life.

Now while applying for EOI, whenever he is trying to include the Au working years to get points for Australian Skilled Experience, its showing 55 points. So we included 2006 to 2012 as Indian experience and 2012 to 2013 as Au experience which makes the total points 60.

    Now my questions are:

Why is it not giving credit for the previous 1 year experience?

Since 60 is the minimum qualifying point for 189, is it enough to obtain the invitation?

Finally where do I check the ceiling and all?

Finally my husband is not very keen on taking the IELTS test again....Plz advise how we should go from here...

I would be obliged if you spend your precious time reading my lengthy question and help us....

Anyways, I am getting a Bonafide letter from my company with my position and years of experience on Company letter head.

If I apply for ACS with bonafide letter from company and statutory declaration in the above mentioned format, Will ACS consider my application for assessment ?

Thanks for all your help in this forum. I have one question regarding the job experience. Will my experience while studying the last semester in MCA be counted by DIAC or they will only consider from the time I finished my MCA and got the final certificate?
I completed the last exam (1 paper from 2nd semester) in MCA in Jan 2005 and the result was declared in April 2005. If DIAC counts job experience only after MCA, will they consider from Jan 2005 or after the result/certificate was given?
Moreover, I did a 1 year diploma and some certifications from IIT, Kharagpur prior to the job and MCA. Will these be counted?

Jul 2001 - Jan 2005(last paper) - Masters in Computer Application from Sikkim Manipal University.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since I am senior professional I have applied for CIO occupation. My doubts are as follows,

1.While submitting the EOI I was asked whether I had appeared for IELTS in the past 36 months. I have entered the results of IELTS which I did in october 2010. Anyways I will be appearing for it again this month. Will this stop me from getting an invitation.

    2. According to the RSMS regulations skill level 1 to 3 need not get the skill assessment done. Tradespersons are the ones who are suppose to get their assessment done. Anyways I am getting the skill assessment done through ACS now. Am I heading the right way?

Is there something I have left out? There is much less spoken about the sub class 187 and the invitation roundup. Is the first invitation round up happening this monday(aug 5)?

    Please revert and assist ASAP.

I would also request you to assist with tutorial videos or sample of third party letters(job and responsibilities signed by senior managers )to assist us.

  76. Hello Sir...

I am planning to apply for ACS Skill assessment.I have few queries, that I want to clarify.

1)My husband is an electrical engineer and has 6+ of expirience as Software engineer. Will he have to apply for a RPL to get his skills accessed.

2)I have 60 points without including the partners skill,so if my husband goes on a dependent visa, will he be able to get a good IT job there without having his skills accessed by ACS.

    Awaiting a quick response .

    Thanks
    Sweta

    1. Another query, I have completed my B.E in computer science, which I believe will come under the ICT major group. I have around 8+ years of IT experience. Now if I apply for the ANZSCO code 261112 and ACS comes back with the result that I have a relevant experience of 2 years pertaining to 261112, will DIAC also consider my overall experience as 2 years, instead of 8+ years thereby reducing my points.

Anybody who has any thoughts around this, please share.

      Thanks in advance

      Regards
      Sweta.

  77. Hi Admin , Nice Blog !!!

I need your help to clear some of my doubts.

First thing is for skill assessment with Engineers Australia can I use my previous IELTS score instead of my recent one; previously I got 6 or more than that in each with 7 overall. In recent one its less than that. So is it possible to use previous scores?

Second query " Is that possible to change IELTS Score after skill assessment, while sending EOI , as I am again appearing for IELTS and hopefully will get 7 each this time ;p.

    Please let me know,

    Kind Regards
    Saab

  78. Hi Admin, Firstly thanks for this blog as it helped many of us with our doubts.

    My Profile Details:

    1. Holds Bachelor Degree (BE Civil)
    2. Has 7+ Yrs of Software Testing Experience as per the code 261314
    3. Age as on today is 32+ and By 12th Nov 2013, I will be 33 Yrs
    4. Need to write IELTS (Expect to write in next month)

    I have couple of Questions:

    1. Am I eligible for Australia PR Process with my Qualification and Experience?

    2. Can I lodge my application before I reach 33 Yrs to get 30 points ? (Age as on today is 32+ and By 12th Nov 2013, I will be 33 Yrs)

    3. By chance I loose 5 Points due to Age factor, will ACS re-consider my experience if I re-validate it. At present I am falling short of couple of months to 8yrs and by dec 2013 I will get into 8 Yrs

    4. Will my Profile be considered if I get less score (i.e 6 or 6.5) in IELTS ?

    5. Is it mandatory that I need to scan all the pay slips as I have less/no payslips for my previous experience?

    6. Is it a best time to apply for PR?

Please let me know if I need to provide any other details

    Thanks
    Aravind

  80. Hello Admin,

I appreciate all the help you are providing.

I have few questions about ACS and it will be a great help to me if you can answer them. So here it goes

I got my ACS result recently and unfortunately 4 years has been deducted from work experience.

Can I apply a fresh application with few changes from the previous application?

Will they compare the old ACS application with the new one?

I am also planning to apply for ACS but I have heard about this experience deduction of 4 years.

Thank you so much for the excellent info you have provided. Just a small question.

I have done my B.Tech in Information Technology and have 3 years and 6 months experience as network admin in a reputed firm. Will this be enough to apply for ACS? Is the experience too less to apply?

    Thank you in advance.

  87. Hi Admin,

I'm on 457 visa & working in Aus and want to apply for PR. Can I apply to PR with different ANZSCO than what I have in my 457? Actually If I go with
my 457 ANZSCO then I have to go for EA which is a bit longer and complex process ( I believe) so I'm trying with ACS using different ANZSCO. My profile is relevant to both but will there be any issue later?

    Pls guide.

    Cheers

  88. Hi,
I want to apply for Skill Assessment for SOL. I am a software professional. As far as my roles and responsibilities are concerned I am fit into both Developer Programmer as well as Analyst Programmer.

But as you told there is limitation of caps(maximum issue), so is there any way to get the status about the current number of issued assessments? That will help me in applying for right position for assessment ...

    Thanks in advance.

  90. Hello Admin,

Please clarify this Thank in advance!

As you said "Just an add-on to that - some people have also used plain A4 sheet and notarized it; but many have gone with stamp paper plus notarization - I guess A4 should also work; but I would recommend going with stamp paper just to be on safe side!"

Do we need to take take letter from manager/senior in stamp paper or plane paper?
In which document we need to take experience refernece is it from stam paper or plane paper?please clarify me ASAP

  94. Hello,
I need to know if you got your assessment and then you see that your occupation is not listed in the desired Region. Can you apply for re-assessment from ACS or you need to apply after this ACS is experied? As it say this ACS is valid for 24 months.

    Thanks,

  95. Hi All,

I need your help, please guide me..

I have completed my ACS in Mar 2013 and i got a positive reply and that my 7.4yrs of experience was considered until Mar 2013. Now i will be completing my 8yrs as per ACS in the Software field as developer. I completed my B.E in Information Science stream (similar to Computer science).
Now when i went to apply for PR Visa based on my 8 yrs experience which collects me 10points (In IELTS my total was 7 but in writing i secured 6 so to get 60 points i thought of applying based on my 8 yrs experience). But now one of the agent said that DIAC has changed the rule and software engineers 2 yrs experience would be deducted. i.e now though ACS confirms my experience as 8yrs (7.4 until march 2013 so now as per that i complete 8yrs), only 6 yrs would be considered and the 2 yrs would be ignored and because of this i will not get 10 points for my experience.

Is this true ? Someone please please help me.

  100. Hi
I am applying for a PR to Aus (sub class 190). I have calculated the points and i got 60 excluding points for state nomination (age - 25 + Qualification- 15+ experience - 10+ IELTS - 10). Even though I have 8+ yrs of relevant experience I have submitted only 5.5 yrs (current company's) docs to Vetassess for assessment and waiting for the result. If i couldn't get the required band score for IELTS my total points will reduce to 50.
    1) If I show docs for my 8 yrs of experience will i get 5 more points against experience so
that my total score will become 55.
    2) Am I eligible for submitting EOI int this stage...

    Please guide me
    Thanks and regards

  101. Good morning/afternoon

This is a great blog, well done on all your hard work and feed back.

I am in the same situation as many other and I am unsure of how many years experience I need.

I got my degree in Business Information Management in 2008 and I have 2 years experience as a ICT Business Analyst (Role on the SOL list) however I am unsure if my degree is a major or minor. Are you able to clarity this? The modules I passed are:

    Electronic Commerce 3
    Managing Business Information Systems
    Business Web Site Creation
    Creating Business Multi-media
    Business Research Methods
    Strategic Management

Can I also ask what sort of proof of employment do I need to provide? Is a reference letter enough or should I supply my contract also? Do they also ask for payslips?

Can I also ask what people mean when they are saying about reaching the ceiling?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

  102. Hi,

I had worked in US around 7 years back. Unfortunately I had not saved my tax returns.
It seems like you need tax returns of all previous jobs.

Should I go for fresh ACS assessment and apply?
I still have enough experience to get around 65 points.

    What are my options here.?

  103. I would really appreciate if someone can share his/her expert advice in this scenario.

I am double graduate. Below are the details:

    B.sc ( Chemistry - Non ICT) : Completed Oct 2007
    B.Sc ( Computer Science - ICT Major ) : Completed July 2013
Work Experience related to ANSCO code 263111 - from November 2007 till date
    1. Whether i should go through the normal route or RPL for ACS assessment?
    2. If i choose the normal route, from which month and year on wards ACS/DIAC will consider work experience to be highly skilled and suitable for claiming points?
