Applying Australian Visa (PR SI 189) - Part II

Waiting for getting a CO was not difficult at start; as at that time, knowing that work on my part was done provided some relaxation. Also, at point of time - the timelines were around 4-5 weeks, which was good enough. So this time went fine but after one month, seeing the trend that DIAC is going really slow on things after the Dec holidays started to test my patience.

Then came couple of bumps, back to back - DIAC updated the timeline on CO allocation on their site from 5 weeks to 7 weeks. After around 2 weeks they increased the same to 10 weeks. This was not expected from DIAC - then reason for the same cleared apart from holiday period of X-Mas and New year - DIAC increased invitation in Nov to two times than invites in Oct and the same was for Dec. So this hit was two folds - Holiday period on one side and double applications on other. Hence, with low mood I accepted it could take quite a while now.

It was close to two months when people around my timeline started to hear something for CO or getting direct grants. People were calling DIAC to know the status of their application as they don't know that they have a CO until CO asks something from them. And if you have everything already front-loaded then CO might just drop a grant mail directly. There were cases with people where CO was not able to see some of the uploaded docs due to some tech glitch at their end; so s/he demands the same in these cases.

If you are wondering what keep me informed of other applicants - its online forums that I mentioned earlier like Expat Forum.

I could have called DIAC myself - but it was a premium ISD number and would cost upto INR 100 (around 2$) per min. Average waiting time to speak to an operator was 30 min. That would have put a big hole in my pocket; so that helped keep my patience for some more time (by that I mean just a week). So, finally I called and got to know that CO is already allocated to my case - operator was not very kind enough to tell me when and who. Anyhow, some relief that my case is assigned.

I would wake up at 4-5 in the morning sometimes to check my mails - it was something I did not want to do it but you know that happens when you are that anxious. After a week or so, I woke up at 6 AM - no mails. I slept like a baby then and woke up late in the morning just to find a GRANT mail that came in an hour ago - WOW, a grant without any document request. Great!

It took me few glances at grant letter attached in the mail to have it feel that its really a grant. Wow, my thought read - "I and my wife are now Permanent Resident of Australia :-)".
Whoa, when that sank in, my thought's wording changed a bit and became - "We have a PR and now we need to leave our stable jobs and go to an entirely new country and find a new job"

Challenge Accepted!

  5. Hi,
I am getting exactly 60 points for 189 independent visa, is it enough? or I will be less preferred candidate?

and one more thing. Did Skill assessment authority ever called your present company or manager or HR. I am also having same problem, if my HR come to know that I am doing this then probably my job will be in danger. But I can manage to get a my supervisors reference letters.

I think reference letter should be on company letter head, or stamp paper is compulsory.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Sunny,
60 is fine - but yes, obviously people with more points will be invited first. But you should be invited sooner or later!
Regarding skill assessment - I don't think my referrers got any calls - but they can, hence referrers need to be aware what they are doing - if things are genuine from your side - everything should sail smoothly!
      Company letter is good!
      Best of Luck!

    1. I started my PCC process done before getting an invite - but process completed just around getting the invite. I would suggest to plan it in the same way to get PCC just around the time you lodge visa to make process fast!
Hope that helps.. best of Luck!

  13. Hi
I am trying for 189 visa and have 60 points.
    I have few questions:
    1) I have applied for Skill Assessment in January,2014 and as per immigration website average processing time for skill assessment is 16 weeks.Does it really take 16 weeks to complete?????
    2) Also I want to ask what is the best time to go for PCC and Medicals.Should i got for it before getting the result of Skill Assessment. Will it effect anything except Maximum Entry Date(MED) as i am planning to go there within 2 3 months after getting my PR??
    3) Also Please guide me related to my PCC.I am presently residing in Jabalpur,Madhya Pradesh with my wife as i am working here but address in my passport is of haryana which is my hometown. So,At which Passport Seva Kendra(Madhya Pradesh or Haryana) i have to go to for my PCC and how much time it takes to get PCC after visiting Passport Seva Kendra in India as in your case.
    4) I dont have my spouse name in my passport as it is made much before my marriage. So, does it is required to add my spouse name in my passport.
    5) My wife has my surname in her passport as it was made after marriage but in all her documents she has surname of her parents which was used before marriage. Does it effect anything in the process.

    Please Reply

    Thanks

    1. Hi,
1> Assessment time is most of the time very close to the time shown in the website. In my case Engineers Australia took around 19 weeks.
2a> PCC is bears a validity of 1 yr in case of Australia and its an independent process with no bearing on anything else, except that you rightly mentioned Entry date.
2b> Medical needs to be done in a listed hospital after receiving your HAP ID. This can be achieved only after you get the invitation and pay your visa fee.

3> PCC is very easy to receive (same day) from the PSK under which your passport address belong. Otherwise ie if you are applying from a different PSK other than your passport address, it may take a little longer...say one month+
This means you can get PCC from anywhere with associated delays.
4> I dont know exact answer to your question.
A small suggestion, if your passport is about to expire within next one year, you better renew it now from the same address of your existing passport. You can approach the PSK for Tatkal, there will be no police verification since your existing passport is not yet expired. You need not disclose that you work somewhere else. But be available in the address to receive when its delivered by post.
Within couple of days of receipt of new passport you can apply for PCC and get it on the same day. Sorry for surplus info.
5> I really dont know the answer.

      Thanks,
      Jis.
